The electric powered lawn mower is very trying to use because of having to fight the cord laying around in the yard while mowing. The battery lawn mower replaced the cord and is just as easy to mow as using a gas powered lawn mower.
One of the draw backs in using a battery lawn mower is the size of lawn you have to mow. If you have a very large lawn then you may not be able to mow the whole lawn with one charge of the battery. However, if your front and back lawn are medium to small then you should have no problem in mowing without recharging.
When you purchase your battery mower be sure and check how long the charge will hold without recharging. All batteries are not created equal. Most battery operated lawn mowers today should last at least an hour before having to recharge. Of course a lot depends on the height of your lawn and size of the yard you are mowing. Its not a good ideal to let your grass to get very tall before mowing when using a battery lawn mower. It requires more energy from the battery to mow tall grass.
While we are talking about the power of your battery just make sure when you purchase your mower that the battery is nickel cadmium (Ni-cad), nickel metal hydride or Lithium. These batteries are more superior to others and they are better for the environment than lead batteries which is a good thing. If the battery lawn mower you want doesn’t have this type of battery at the time of purchase just ask them if you can get a replacement before you take the mower home. It might cost a little more but it would be well worth the extra cost.
If you don’t like a gas powered mower then consider the battery lawn mower before going electric. I have used an electric mower before and believe me I would never do it again. You end up mowing the cord more than the grass and its just a lot of trouble.
